SHONGWENI SALE ENTRANT LANDS EGOLI MILE!
21 February 2019

Progressive three-year-old Drop Kick, due to sell as Lot 13 on Tuesday’s Shongweni Mixed Sale, stamped himself a hugely exciting sort when he romped home in the Egoli Mile (Non-Black Type) at Turffontein on Wednesday evening.

Ridden by Raymond Danielson, the Alec Laird trained Judpot gelding stormed home to post a 1.75 length win in Wednesday’s 1600m contest at the expense of the regally bred favourite Captain Of Tortuga, with the Camelot filly Welsh Harp taking third place.

Drop Kick, who races in the colours of the late Chris Gerber, made it win number two with an authorative score which took the Varsfontein Stud bred sophomore’s earnings to over R220 000.
A R400 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale, Drop Kick is out of the four time winning Fort Wood mare Albizia –which makes him a full-brother to G1 Golden Horseshoe winner Forest Indigo –who earned over R900 000 in prize money.

More than 120 lots make up the catalogue February 26th’s Shongweni Mixed Sale, which, once again, will offer buyers the opportunity to acquire bloodstock, for a variety of purposes, at bargain basement prices.

The Mixed Sale consists of horses in training, a broodmare with a Crusade colt at foot, as well as a host of two-year-olds and yearlings –which include a number of exciting prospects –both for the racetrack and as broodmare prospects.  Nineteen of the lots will be offered on behalf of the late Chris Gerber, whose colours were carried to a memorable and emotional win in the 2019 G1 Sun Met.

Among the two-year-olds are lots by such exciting stallions as Master Of My Fate, Soft Falling Rain, and Wylie Hall and proven G1 sires Duke Of Marmalade, Silvano, Toreador, Var and Visionaire, while the yearlings are by the likes of Crusade and Toreador.

There is also a supplementary catalogue online, which features lots from such top yards as CK Racing, Brett Crawford, and former champion trainer Sean Tarry.
