RIVERTON STUD TO BID FOR MORE NATIONAL SALE SUCCESS!
15 April 2019

Duncan Barry’s Riverton Stud hit the heights at the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, when the Robertson farm sold promising Captain Al filly Cousin Liz for R2.9 million –making her the top filly at that auction.

Subsequently, the blue blooded Cousin Liz has stamped herself a filly to watch, with the juvenile having won her only start with contemptous ease.
Cousin Liz, however, is not the only recent Riverton Stud bred to impress –the Riverton bred Cirillo has earned over R4.5 million during the past two seasons, while Riverton also bred this season’s dual G3 winner Gimme One Night.

Riverton, which has also bred the likes of Equus Champion Captain Of All and Cape Guineas hero Domino Man, will be offering eight yearlings at the 2019 National Sale, with the draft made up of lots by such notable stallions as Captain Al, Elusive Fort, Flower Alley and Pomodoro.

Deceased champion Captain Al, sire of, among many others, the Riverton bred star Captain Of All as well as Cousin Liz, is represented by a colt (Lot 31) whose dam is a half-sister to Merchants winner Triptique, while Captain Of All (whose first runners include impressive stakes winner Captain Anne Bonny) is the sire of a colt (Lot 273) whose dam is a half-sister to no fewer than five stakes horses!

July winner and hot sire Pomodoro,  whose offspring number champion Return Flight and Cirillo among them, is represented by two lots in this draft. First is a half-brother (Lot 75) to 2 winners overseas who is from the immediate family of Horse Of The Year and seven time G1 winner Minding, and the second is a filly (Lot 532) related to high class fillies Elusive Heart, Stormy Appeal and Storm Destiny among others.

Dynasty’s Horse Of The Year and four time G1 winner Futura is the sire of a colt (Lot 312) whose 3 time winning dam is a half-sister to 2 stakes winners, while G1 winner and G1 sire Flower Alley has a half-sister (Lot 413) to recent winner Heart Of A Legend from the family of J&B Met winner Polo Classic.

Successful sire and triple G1 winner Elusive Fort is responsible for a colt (Lot 471) whose dam is a half-sister to Golden Slipper winner Princess Sassi and Syringa Handicap heroine Secret Obsession, while Redoute’s Choice horse Time Thief (sire of top Australian galloper In Her Time) is represented by a colt (Lot 547) whose four time winning dam is a daughter of Champagne Stakes winner Waterwise.
